Picardy drive
Picardy Drive (2002, 56 min) is a documentary about a neighborhood in Oakland CA that is based on a village in Normandy, France. There are 70+ houses on the street with an island in the center including a castle and a park with a large tree. Every holiday season, the residents decorate their homes with lights and string a strand of lights from house to house, called a friendship chain. They host a tree lighting ceremony every year to kick off the season. Oakland residents have been coming to see the lights for generations. This year, 2026, is the 100th anniversary of this tradition. Although the residents come together every year for this event, there are many things they don't agree on, including how to pronounce the name of their street.
